What I think is sweet about this song is that it can be looked at in my different ways, literal or not. Personally, I think it's about a failed relationship and about how you still kind of want to be with that person but you know it's for the better that it's over. He loves the way she makes him feel but "this much madness is too much sorrow" and he can't deal with it anymore. To me, the chorus is saying that he's just forgetting about her for good; he's "shooting" the memory of her. He's saying that he's done with it all and he uses the river to symbolize that he's going to keep moving forward, as a river does. That's what I think it's about anyways...Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds do an awesome cover of this song as well. |
