| Some of you were actually pretty close but nobody got the whole thing right. I have actually heard Brad Arnold (the lead singer)'s interpretation of this song. The prostitute was 17 years old, the man payed her for her services but then beat her, raped her without a condom and (accidentaly) impregnated her.(that happened in the first verse). One month later he is drunk and starting to regret what he did because he has a little girl at home, (that happens in the second verse. Now the 3rd verse is where this song seems to have lost you guys. That is not the man who raped and beat her who is thinking of commiting suicide, it is the son that was created that night. He knows that his mother was raped and beat and he has become an alchoholic and one night when he is drunk he is thinking about suicide because he has felt like he is turning into his father "but one hand throws the whiskey and the other throws the gun, as he crys out to the heavens i am not my father's son".....(he decided not to do it)....i hope this has cleared some things up, and if you listen to the song again you might see what im talking about | |
