I think it also talks about gods love, gods love is unconditional, and also if you don't believe in god, like i do, its about this love energy that is in every living thing, and doesn't discriminate between good and bad its just love, plain and simple. I think Alanis likes to familiarize herself with god, aka remember her role in Dogma? i think she likes to be Buddha like and try to see things with Buddha eyes. Enlightened eyes. Ani ♥ |

I am a buddhist and Guan Yin is the Buddha of compassion for the Chinese, Avalokiteshvara or Chenrezing, for the Tibetans. So she is saying compassion is her law. I think its beautiful. The song and every thing it encompasses really speaks to a godlike loving compassionate being. I am not sure but in a way i think she is peaking about humanity and how it started, and how it moved from continent to continent. Or maybe about how her families linage started and then moved till she was born and she carries all that lineage with her, we all do, the lineage of all humans and of all beings. I think also since in this album she has a song about rebirth that maybe that idea is impregnated in this song also. Idk just some random thoughts here, would love to hear what others think of it also. ani ♥ |

This is one of the songs that i go back to when i want to remember why i ended a relationship with a boyfriend. It was always something like this, like the song says... specially in my 20s omg really bad when you didnt realize that you cant actually change people and really all you can do is love them for who they are or else leave. It makes me remember a certain time in my life. Actually Alanis has been present with me since i was in my early 20s and i have seen her music and messages change with me. I feel like she is my poetic voice and hear her echo so many times in different situations. Its beautiful. In this song i specially love the line "im at the end of self depravation stage" |
