Just saw John play this song live in New Orleans on the Born and Raised tour. Before he played it he introduced it by saying this song is about no more new years resolutions, and that he's ready to finally get around to living. He also said it's a story told in 3 parts. I cant remember what each part was, but I know the middle about "Maybe its all a dream" He called part 2: the dream. and then i think he said part 3: the resolution about the part "I think you better wise up boy" very cool song. Loved it live! |

Absolutely love this song. Songwriting at its finest. But I always chuckle when I hear it now because of the line "Tonight we're gonna order in, Drinkin wine and watchin CNN" I always thought it was "...Chicken won and watching CNN" Like they are ordering chinese and he ordered Chicken won ton soup or something! |

A few years ago I used to think that the line about "I don't hit on 19" meant she was too young for him to hit on, but now I realize it is about black jack. I think he's trying to say that she isn't perfect and yes she has flaws, but that doesn't mean he wants to try and get someone that IS perfect and risk losing her. I also think the line "and I don't need another kind of green to know I'm on the right side with you" is in no way about weed. We all know John has dabbled with marijuana, as all great artists do, but I don't think it has influenced his song writing with this one. I agree with the previous comments saying that he's talking about how the grass is always greener on the other side. He's trying to point out that though people say there is always something better, he doesn't even want to consider his options because he's happy with the girl he has! John also started the AKOG foundation a while back.. so he may be trying to subliminally alert is to some environmental issues as well. Love this song! |

This song is definitely my favorite song John has ever played. I was just at his concert in New Orleans for the battle studies tour. He was having problems with the electric guitars or something, so we got to hear him play 2 extra acoustic songs. He played Neon and COMFORTABLE! we had eighth row seats, and as soon as i heard the intro i knew it was comfortable. I was praying he would play this, and when i heard it coming i stood up on my chair so john could see me. i was crying my eyes out for some reason... this song just brings out so much emotion in me. it was a really special moment. well anyway, i think of this song as john having a relationship with a girl he really likes, then something happens and it ends. then he finds a new girl that he doesnt really fit with, but his friends and all are telling him that its a really good relationship and theyre perfect for each other |

Im pretty sure hes says "98 and 6 degrees of seperation from you baby" as in, 98 years old and 6 degrees of seperation... coming from the concept that everyone is seperated by 6 people. So he's saying that he doesnt want her to walk out on him, so that when he turns 98 years old he still wants to be with her, not just two strangers in the world that are only connected by 6 degrees of people i could be wrong but every time i heard the song i never even considered it as a temperature. though that would make sense because he talks about it being cold in the bed without her.. This is definitely one of my favorite JM songs. i just saw him on march 10 on the battle studies tour and it was AMAZING. he's so talented |
