This song is about love and relationships. In love, two women can't be happy because if a man loves one he can't love the other (thus one woman's dream comes true while the other (ano ko) woman is left crying). "Dareka no negai ga kanau koro, ano ko ga naiteru yo" (when someone's dream comes true, the other girl (over there) is crying) The singer of the song lost the important thing to little things (not going for what she wanted, being happy just having him for a time): "Chiisa na koto de daiji na mono ushinatta" "Ima sae areba ii" to itta kedo sou ja nakatta" She goes on to say that although she wishes for (his) happiness she is selfish (because she wants him for her own happiness): "Anata no shiawase negau hodo wagamama ga fueteku yo" -"Jibun no shiawase negau koto wagamama dewa nai desho?" (wishing for one's own happiness isn't selfish...right?) "Watashi no namida ga kawaku koro ano ko ga naiteru yo" (when my tears dry the other girl will be crying). Kono mama bokura no jimen wa kawakanai (and in this way, the ground beneath us will not dry - because of falling tears) Basically everyone's dream cannot come true..one woman gets the dream and the other gets the tears; it took me 7 years, and marrying a Japanese woman to get my Japanese good enough to understand this beautiful song. Sorry for the essay I just really love this song, and Utada should have been my wife...hehe |
