An excellent song in every way. the lyrics tell about th ecarefree times we have as youngsters, but soon we become (or should become) responsible for every decision, no matter mow minor or trivial it may seem, that we make. The line "..No one told you when to run...you missed the starting gun..." says it all. For most, there will be a day when nobody is able to wipe your nose and you must do it yourself.
Breathe reprise makes me appreciate what I have (I like to be here when I can...it's good to warm my bones beside the fire...), and I certainly do...great family, friends, career...
The guitar solo is incredible. I can actually (and I know others can as well...) hear the exact moment when David Gilmour plucks/strums/plays a note. Awesome! |

Although my favourites change from time to time, this has been a favourite for years. I'm more of a hard rock type, but beautiful songs always get to me. Led Zep is the greatest. Yes there are other groups that are more widely known and great in their own right (Beatles, Stones, I won't go on...). However, LZ could do all types of music (Metal, country, ballads, world, etc) better than others in my opinion, mainly because they did whatever they wanted (Yes, the Beatles did as well, also-but not with quite the level of musicianship). Fanatstic song. I love the guitar during the last 5 - 10 seconds at the end. |

The loss of childhood innocence-the child remarking nonchalantly that there is an airplane, not realizing it is an army fighter/bomber used in the bombing of London. The live version with Roger Waters and various artists is beautiful (Joni Mitchell lead singer). The flute (piccolo, or some other high pitched instrument) heard behind the ominous voices provides an interesting contrast to the eerie feeling created by the singers. Brilliant! |

Quite simply it seems that the artist knew that he had to leave to get his break in the music biz in the Apple of decay (NYC). He wants to start a life for his lady and himself ("I'm looking out for the two of us") and hopes they are both in NYC in music when the record company is "through with us". |
