This country was started on religion to a degree, but if Thomas Jefferson were alive today and learned about evolution, and he watched a few episodes of The Universe on the History Channel, he would be an atheist. Who cares if this country was started on religion? Religion is not rational. It negates human freedom and human reason to believe in an unalterable authoritarian supernatural law. And heavy metal is not the reason I'm an atheist. I became an atheist when I started reading Ayn Rand. |

That is the worst form of reasoning. Cancer is made up of human cells, is it wrong to remove it? What makes human beings valuable is sentience, self awareness of their identity, and reason. Their individual cells mean nothing. A fetus has none of those characteristics, abortion is not murder and should remain legal. |

Blackened98: Evolution is a proven scientific principle, it is the cornerstone of human understanding of biology. I suppose you would say that scientists are just following the anti religious, irreligious science trend.
Belief in the supernatural is fundamentally irrational. To live by restrictive and authoritarian rules, to believe you are always being watched by a supernatural being is to negate one's reason and one's freedom. Religion is nothing more than superstition and myth. Don't dare say being irreligious is a delusion when you believe in an invisible man in the sky. God is a delusion. |
