| Err I meant to say they thought this was their final album and it was until '83 with The Final Cut. During the tour for Animals they felt alienated due to the first time playing in huge stadiums hence the concept of The Wall. I dunno how I mixed that up lol. | |

| The reason the band wrote this album was because in their "youth" as a band they didn't know how the industry worked and as they aged they lost their connection with their fans hence the wall. Everything about this album was a look back into the career and personal of the band's lives and thrown into one big pot. The character "Pink" is everything Pink Floyd. Even their live shows for this album had meaning. It would start with the band preforming behind a large wall and song by song the wall would gradually fall down symbolizing the wall being torn between them and their fans. The album, movie, and tour for The Wall was compilation of everything Floyd being thrown on the table for all to see and interpret for yourselves to relate to. They wanted this to be their last album but due to its major success as well as the film they continued with Animals. This is not my speculation or "opinion" this is from an actual interview with Gilmour in the Pink Floyd issue of Guitar World. | |

*sigh* Ok first things first. the best way to find any meaning within Tools music is to listen to the overall feel of the song. don't base it off of lyrics alone cuz they can be missguided w/o feeling the music. Secondly, most of the album Lateralus was based off of spiritual cleansing thus if liftened to you should be enlightened into a peaceful state of mind. The Grudge was influenced by The Scarlette Letter hence the lyrics "wear the grudge like a crown" and "Scarlette Letterman". however MJK is an artist, tho the song may be influenced, it is still his and the other band mates works of art. don't draw out this long difficult meaning behind it because he's simply saying... | What I get from the song is loving someone from a far. Loving someone who doents love you back hence "When love and death embrace". Its intertwined so to speak, loving someone to death but when they dont love you it feels like dying. | |
