this is my favourite song on the album. i play it over and over. there's something so sad and lonely about it. i feel sorry for the girl its based on. how sad she must be. and she obviously affected caleb because he wrote a song about it. anyway so we all know that the song was based on a prostitute he met in arizona. for some reason when this song comes on i think of small, almost ghostly town with not much hope left in it. like, most of the kids that grow up there may never get a big break or move away, but end up spending their whole lives in that town (i've never been to arizona, but i have lived in small towns before and i know that people often don't move away from that comfort... or atleast they're afraid of the unknown.) i don't go along with the whole her boyfriend bashing caleb.. thats a bit weird.. cos she's like, a prostitute, so i doubt she'd have a boyfriend.. but i do think it could be about a pimp that caleb picks a fight with, and winds up getting kicked out for his drunken, drugged-out behaviour- he hits the pavement and tastes the blood inin his mouth "taste of something awful/i hate when that happens". my favourite lines are "she shakes, like the morning railway/checking me out/someone on her shoulder..." and "the lamp flickers in the bedroom/she must feel as awkward/whore-house arizona" it like she's feels embarassed about her situation for the first time. kings of leon a truly talented. how they can make a song sound so beautiful given the subject, is truly amazing. love it. x |

This song is beautiful and one of my favourites on the album. its really sweet and reminds me of a friend i had named Stevie, of whom i also had a falling out with. So whenever i listen to this song it reminds me of her. Basically, its about a girl Lisa was friends with, someone Lisa obviously idolised, but they had a falling out and she misses her. "Tea leaves in the cup, you're a good friend of mine" - she's sure there's no doubt about it. "How the sober are thirsty for the sweet wine" - she misses her friend now she's no longer there. Wine is a metaphor for Stevie and sober is Stevie's absence. |

I agree with jueromatique.. This song is exactly how i felt about a boy who was really sweet and made me feel amazing but at the same time was a player and took me along for the ride. It hurt, but i couldn't let go because i'd have rather been with him and have him hurting me, than not have him in my life at all. We grew apart, stopped talking altogether, it felt like a 'lost goodbye'. Mundane things like going outside for a smoke or walking down the street reminded me of him, and knowing he probably wouldn't acknowledge me if i walked past.. 'Like a distant bark' ..reminds me of the lonliness of not having them there for you anymore. Like an incomplete lulllaby.. |

Yeah well as someone stated previously, its not about Josh.. Why's everyone so obsessed with those two being an item. Think about it: would you really like it if that even though you're in a relationship with someone, but people were constantly going on about your ex? Its not nice guys. So shut the fuck up about Hayley and Josh. Now. To the song.. I think its just really about missing someone when they're gone. Pretty basic. But time goes soooo slowly when my boyfriend (or friends, family etc) are gone- you feel sad and bored, hencw the "think i'll pace my apartment a few times, and fall asleep on the couch..." When someone's away or you've broken up, you feel lost and it takes a long time to adjust to being by yourself again. I also think this song is about remembering to (or wishing you had)cherish the time you spend with people cos you don't always know when its gonna come to an end.. And when it does, you'll regret not appreciating it. One of my favourite songs of there's. Its so beautiful and haunting and Hayley's voice is killer!! They should bee sooo proud of themselves. |
