Sia – Elastic Heart Lyrics 10 years ago
I think this song was about someone who hurt her.

"And another one bites the dust
Oh why can I not conquer love?
And I might have thought that we were one
Wanted to fight this war without weapons"
^^ She thought they were right together, and wanted to love without a power struggle and hurt ("war without weapons").

"And I wanted it, I wanted it bad
But there were so many red flags
Now another one bites the dust
Yeah, let’s be clear, I’ll trust no one"
^^ She wanted them to work out so bad, she ignored the red flags. And now, she won't trust anyone.

"You did not break me
I’m still fighting for peace
Well, I’ve got thick skin and an elastic heart,
But your blade – it might be too sharp
I’m like a rubber band until you pull too hard,"
^^ It was too much for her and she snapped, and she's fighting to feel better about it. And in the process she's saying that she's strong and even though she'll break if pushed too far, she will prevail.

The rest of the song has the same theme of losing trust in people because of this person, the "chosen one" who she thought was the one, hurt her badly. But her thick skin and elastic heart will absorb the shock of the heartbreak and bounce back.

Just my thoughts!

The Last Goodnight – Stay Beautiful Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song is about a guy who doesn't want the girl to change. She is beautiful just as she is (personality wise), and she has all the time in the world just to stay the way she is.

This is such a cute song!

It's definitely about an initial attraction between two people. I think they're still in the flirting stage, and he really wants to tell her that he loves her, and she really want to hear it, and she knows it. It's this unspoken love. It's the sort of relationship most of us wish we had: when you just can't have enough of the other person, and you love and hate pining for them when they're not there, and you really just want to tell the other person how much you want (or already) love them...it all comes down to if they let you or not.

Sara Bareilles – Winter Song Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song is very intelligently written.

Winter is usually associated with the death of (or at least a stop to) life (aka plants, trees, flowers, etc.). So, this is where the two sing:

"They say that things just cannot grow
beneath the winter snow,
or so I have been told."

That last line is very important. Because it shows that they don't believe that things cannot grow. Winter and love analogies in this song. I think it's really to do with two people who are seperated. But because they are seperated, does that mean that their love is gone? And can't grow anymore? Just as in winter, does it mean that all life is at an end? This song is a rebel to that common belief. This song is about missing a loved one, but also realizing that love can grow with absence. Her words are their only way of keeping their love alive. And so, she repeatedly asks herself in those lonely winters, is their love still alive...or is it dying like the life outside because of the cold?

It's sort of nice, because in the end, she finally says that summer will come, and...I don't know, I guess they'll be together again.

Sara Bareilles – Many the Miles Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is sooo awesome!

Basically, I think it's about really wanting something and almost worrying yourself over it that you won't get it. I think it's sort of like a bittersweet feeling. You love something so much, but it's so far away from you, and you keep on trying and trying to get it, and in the end, you sort of end up asking "How far do I have to go to get to you?" But, I think this song is also saying that you shouldn't perish in an aim to fulfill your passions. You can't just stop living and start working and worrying, hoping that one day you'll get that thing you wanted (thus, "but surely something has got to got to got to give/cause i can't keep waiting to live")

So, love something, and get it. But don't try so much that you're ruining yourself in the pursuit of it.

Sara Bareilles – Gravity Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is definitely one of my favorites!

It's definitely about a relationship, but I don't think it's necessarily about a guy she was going out with. It might just be a guy she liked. I think we all have had that one crush who we couldn't stay away from. And it is possible that even just liking him felt like she was being weighed down.

She loves that he makes her feel stronger, but she still feels weaker than him. She loves that he doesn't force her to like him, but his very presence never leaves her. She would love to just love him, but loving him means keeping herself down. She wants to be free from loving him, because in a way, his love is restricting her life. But she can't help herself, because he seems to be everything she ever wanted.
