I think angelrenegade is right. I heard somewhere that Rebubula was Rob's petname for her

Umphrey's Mcgee – In The Kitchen Lyrics 14 years ago
At first I thought it was kinda about smokin up and all that shit mentioned above, but I believe that juliannasilo x3 has gotten closest to the truth of the matter. The line that really did it for me was :

"The blankets that I stole should keep you warm"
(along with, "I don't expect a smile when I get home")

My original interpretation of this line was something along the lines of: Hey I stole theses blankets for you! after thinking about it more though, I realized it was about a fighting couple. She would always complain about him "stealing the blankets" so now that he left (she left?) she can have the blankets she bitched about all to herself.

The opening stanza reinforces my belief that this song is about a breakup. By the time that winter got to chicago, It was already cold in the kitchen. Every breath resembling smoke could be interpreted as people smoking up, but it doesn't say every breath was smoke, it says resembles. To me, that creates an image of misty breath when it's cold. So every thing they say to each other is cold. "... I wanted to know if you'd still be here tomorrow" speaks for itself.

As for, "I hope you never find to fill the hole/ I'm further from the source to fell the floor," I haven't quite puzzled out yet. Let me know if you have any input, I'll let you know if I come up with anything.

Overall, I think this song is about a girlfriend (or perhaps Brendan's wife) always bitching all the time "The T.V.'s on too much", etc. I think eventually he got pissed and left. Or perhaps she left him, and he's rationalizing it, justifying it, trying to make himself feel better/accepting of the breakup.
