I agree with most of that, though I think the "two substances collide" line is about drugs as well as the biological definition of life, a supremely clever play on words, if you will. I think the 16 tons of hazmat are all the negative burdens that we accumulate throughout our lives, hence the not wanting to look back. Also, just because Bird is an intelligent guy (no argument there) doesn't mean he doesn't/hasn't use/used drugs. Drug use is one of life's true equal opportunity employers. |

I love the suicide lines. They remind of the almighty Kurt Vonnegut remarking (super cynically, as per usual) that, though damn near every prominent American artist protested the Vietnam War, all of their effort amounted to "A creampie thrown down a hallway," (paraphrasing, don't precisely remember). Sad, but true. Keep trying though, damnit!! By the way, not that I have anything against Jack Johnson, but people constantly comparing these two is really pissing me off. Musically speaking, Andrew's stuff is sooooooo much more intricate. |
