i used to think this was written from courtney’s perspective, but now i think she wrote it about somebody she didn’t like very much. it sounds like this song is about a woman who was casting judgement on her from a place of puritan “virtue.” this woman scorned her and tried to shame her sexuality in some way, or maybe was jealous of her. courtney seems to be laughing it off lyrically with some rather snarky shade to throw here.

This is my favorite Joy Division song. Reminds me of a mood disorder. You feel like you have all these thoughts and feelings that you can't control and you just want to be normal. I don't know what was going through his mind when he wrote it but that's what it means to me.

I love this song. To me it really sums up what I feel like when I'm battling depression. I think it could be about anything bad that is happening in your life that is eating away at you and putting you in that depressed state of mind that you can't seem to dig yourself out of. You try to stay strong and tell people that you're fine when they ask, because you don't want to worry them or deal with the conversation or attention it would bring.

This song is clearly about the drug ecstasy, the comedown, and what it does to your life. You can't appreciate the beauty of everyday life anymore once you start rolling a lot unless you're rolling, you get depressed because the serotonin in your brain is depleted, life just isn't what it used to be unless you're on ecstasy.
