This is a personal opinion of a possible interpretation for this Song
I think that this song has some major religious under-lyings to it. What i noticed first was the "Seven days since I've seen your face, Seven nights I have laid to waste". The number seven is a very symbolic number for God. The beginning of the song is talking about how someone commits suicide "just getting over it and dealing with the mourning". Then second verse is talking about how he has not talked to God for a long time "Seven days since I've seen your face, Seven nights I have laid to waste". Again the God part comes from the number seven. Also the second verse is talking about his realization of the parts of his life that are bad and cannot be fixed without God "I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired, I know we're hanging at the end of the rope, We've flown too high, maybe swung too low". The being "sick and tired" symbolize the sin and evil in his our lives. The third verse is is challenging everyone to look at themselves and see the things they are doing and what they put their faith in, your "Kingdom", because it is crumbling and can't last forever, "You're a tradgedy,A queen for his majesty, All this blasphemy, Your kingdom is crumbling". The chorus is split into three parts for each verse. The first part of the chorus goes with the first verse, "Somebody turn the lights on, Somebody tell me whats wrong". This shows his initial realization for something or someone to save him from his problems(his friend or whomever committing suicide), and how he is looking for someone to answer his questions. The second part of the chorus is for the second verse, "I'd be lying if I told you, Losing you was something I could handle". This is talking about his realization of God, coming to faith, and realizing how he simply cannot go on without God in his life. The Third part of the chorus kind of goes with the third verse and is said as though God is talking to us(meaning everyone), "Somebody turn the lights on, Somebody tell me how long, All this darkness will surround you, Cuz I'm burning for you, Burning like a candle". This is talking about how God is waiting for us and "burning" for us "like a candle", all we need to do is realize it and simply trust in Him and He will help us through all our troubles, "darkness" or "being sick and tired". This is simply what I think could be a translation of this song. let me know what you think. |
