| James Arthur – Impossible Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
I think he is saying that people warned him about love & the dangers of it & he thought he listened to them but when he actually got his heart broken he now realises what they were talking about & it was more terrible than he ever imagined. So he is basically saying "Tell them they were right about love" This is my interpretation & experience, probably interlinked. |

| Kenny Rogers – Lucille Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
My Interpretation: So the person narrating the song is in a bar & sees a good looking woman who takes off her wedding ring, so he takes the opportunity to chat her up. She says that she is fed up with her life & wants some excitement. Meanwhile a huge man comes up & addresses the woman (Lucille), "You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille" Lucille had left this man at a bad time in his life (at some previous time I should imagine). The man then leaves the situation but it is obvious he was broken. The narrator then carries on with his pursuit of the woman & proceeds to a hotel room with the Lucille to spend the night with her. but the narrator's conscience is bothering him that this woman is deliberately cheating & being cruel & unfaithful to her partner, this taints the situation & he can't go through with it. It appears to me as though the narrator can't do to another man what he wouldn't want to happen to himself |

| Plan B (uk) – ill Manors Lyrics | 13 years ago |

I think this is a song about class distinction in modern Britain and how the divide is getting greater in this current economic climate and as a result this is one of the catalysts that sparked the August 2011 riots. There are a number of Stereotypes in society, the hoody with a knife, the rich boy politician, they are both out of touch with each other. There is a class divide and I think the song is saying that even though the government think they are helping society or at least appear to be, young ones are bored and no one cares about them, shown in the line “Who closed down the community centre?, I kill time there used to be a member. |

| Friendly Fires – Hawaiian Air Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
It seems to me that this is about a dream holiday to Hawaii of someone who doesn't like flying. The lyrics are about the discomfort of the seats, having alcohol instead of food to calm the nerves, the resign to the thought that if the plane goes down there is nothing you can do and when the flight is over after touch down the reassuring pinch of the hand by a loved one signalling that it is all over. Watching a film with a talking dog, is an in flight movie possibly that they are not concentrating on because of the fear of flying (I'm wondering if in Scooby Doo 2, doesn't Scooby dress up in a hoola outfit? just a random Hawaii connection.) Anyway I could be completely wrong, just the way I interpret the lyrics |

| Queen – Seven Seas Of Rhye Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I think that looking at the posts and the lyrics I agree the connection between Rhye and Rye, it seams that it's about the escapism and invincibility felt when drunk and the effect it has on people, especially with the "Good ole sing song" at the end. Although Rye being and american whisky and Queen being a British band and singing a very British song at the end may raise some questions about this explanation. | |
| Gilbert O'Sullivan – Nothing Rhymed Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Ok, I have been staring at the Lyrics of this song and this it my interpretation of it's meaning: Verse 1 If I do a good deed like a child, do we congratulate ourselves and seek a pat on the head kind of in a selfish way. If I make a mistake then you get punished far worse than you deserve to keep you in servitude (possibly to authority) This could be a reference to being treated as children and not having free will. Verse 2 This is a juxtaposition, that opposites are true, I have the right to be wrong if I choose. And that I am allowed to gamble if I like even if I lose then I enjoyed it. It’s my right. Verse 3 While I am eating, drinking and relaxing, will we notice what’s going on in the world or will we just ignore it because it’s not happening to us. Verse 4 These are all well known phrases that start with Nothing used to explain or excuse things that happen, there is a repetition of the word for emphasis. There isn’t and exact rhyming word with the word nothing, but by using all these phrases that start with the word nothing, it starts to create a rhyme and makes sense. In conclusion, there is no rhyme or reason to this world. We are told what to do and think, we are all selfish and live in our own little world and the only thing we use to make sense of it all or to excuse ourselves is the word Nothing, which in itself doesn’t rhyme with anything but we keep using it to explain things and it keeps being repeated by people. So a double meaning Nothing Rhymed as in Nothing made sense and Nothing Rhymed as in it was the word Nothing that rhymed. |

| Gilbert O'Sullivan – Alone Again (naturally) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
This song really means a lot to me at the moment, me & my Dad & Brothers have always been big Gilbert Fans, we went to see him on Friday 18th February 2011 at Birmingham Town Hall England check out my youtube vids of him: Ianm3247 OK meaning, Verse 1 Been stood up at the alter, committing suicide would be a treat after the way he's feeling it would show everyone you have nothing left to live for, but nobody cares because they just say ooh that's bad oh well lets go home, although feeling sorry don't attempt to help and in fact stay away. Verse 2 Reminiscing about how he was looking forward to the future and how bright everything looked, then for no reason it was all torn apart and the dream was shattered without much warning or indication and it's didn't take much to do so. He thought a belief in God would have sustained or prevented this happening but it didn't and he felt deserted even by God himself, causing him to question his own belief. Verse 3 Why does this loneliness and heartbreak happen, it's not just him it's all around him and all over the world, there is no answer to it. Verse 4 His Dad died suddenly at 65 and his mother never came to terms with it. She questioned why she had ended up on her own when she was so happy and she never understood until the day she died. Eventually his mother died also leaving him alone once again. In conclusion weather you are happy or not eventually you are going to end up alone and broken hearted and there is nothing you can do about it and there is nothing like the feeling of loneliness and we all feel it in one way or another. Personal: This song means so much to me because we grew up listening to Gilbert, when I got married I used to sing Matrimony to my wife as a joke and was married for 6 years. 6 Months ago my wife left me and I couldn't understand why it happened as I lover her so much. I have lived on my own since then and struggled to come to terms with it, it even caused me to question why God had left me when I needed him the most. Around the same time my Dad had a major heart attack at 65 and by a miracle that day survived, but I thought a lot about what would have happened if he hadn't and how devastated our family would have been. My Dad loved the concert as did we all and it was a pleasure to see his face finally see Gilbert in the flesh and I truly appreciate the genius of Gilbert's Lyrics. |

| Gilbert O'Sullivan – Nothing Rhymed Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I think it's saying that nothing makes sense in the world. If you give up your seat you think you are doing a good deed, and if you make a mistake in the course of duty you are punished severely for it. We become desensitised watching people starve to death while we are eating and drinking normally. I think it means that it all happens while we watch the world and there's nothing we really can do or we aren't really doing enough. Kind of like, life carries on and doesn't make sense while we live in our own little world. | |
| Vampire Weekend – Giving Up the Gun Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Sorry to bring this down to gutter level but I wondered if the "When I was 17, I had wrists like steel and I felt complete" is a reference to not having had sex and the "Gun" (Male Organ) is a metaphore for giving up sex or the hold sex can have in order to let go of a relationship that's not right. Sorry, probably way off with this one. |

I don't think they say "Grab a kazoo, let's have a tune" I think it's "Brang a kazoo, let's have a tune" Like the old west way of saying Bring. Anyone agree or is it just me? |

| Vampire Weekend – Oxford Comma Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I love this song and thanks for all the comments; they gave me a lot to think about. I agree with all of what VampireArcade said about the rich girl who was embarrassed of her lower class boyfriend. Just wanted to throw in a couple more things in though: I was wondering if the idea that rappers who never uses the correct grammar or punctuation are renowned and respected for telling the truth in their music also the Dalai Lama who is an example of wisdom doesn't talk with a perfect accent but is still regarded as one of the highest examples of wisdom. So just using an oxford comma or perfect English is no guarantee of truthfulness, as the English Dramas can be cruel and the English is perfect in them. I may be way off here but I always though that this song had the style of Buddy Holly's Music and on the day Buddy Holly died the Dalai Lama was exiled from Tibet to Dharamsala in northern India which Vampire Weekend paid tribute too Buddy Holly at Tibet House Benefit. Just a thought Does anyone have any ideas on the "Show your Paintings at the United Nations"? |
