| Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Do You Love Me? Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| Not sure how accurate it is, or if it was a joke. But I think it was at the concert in 1998, 17 Septembre at Warfield Theatre he told the audience "This is a song I wrote for my ex-wife". Or among these lines. | |
| Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Stranger Than Kindness Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| The song itself is written by Anita Lane. They performed this song at The Royal Albert Hall in 1997 the 19th of May. While Nick Cave was announcing the song he said that the song is written by Anita Lane as a sort of revenge thingy towards Cave. | |

Quite surprised nobody commented on this song yet. This song is obviously about singer songwriter Nick Cave. He has a song from Murder Ballads that is named Song of Joy. Hence the first part refers to it: "I’ll be your girl named Joy". Not sure why she wants to be Joy in the first place, because the narrator of Song of Joy kills this woman named Joy. The second reference I see is Loverman. "When you are my loverman Until the bitter end". This again is a song by Cave with the same title: Loverman. Also covered by various other bands. The "And call me the wild rose" is a reference to another Murder Ballad track done by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds together with Kylie Minogue. Where The Wild Roses Grow. But also there, the victim who's refered to as 'the wild rose' is killed again by 'Cave'. |

I always wondered why the booklet that comes with the cd actually says: "As he stood smiling above me with a rock in his fist." |

| Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Henry Lee (feat. PJ Harvey) Lyrics | 9 years ago |

For me this song is a bit confusing: First Nick Cave sings from a first person perspective. "I can't get down and I won't get down " Then in the next verse he's not singing about him anymore: "She plugged HIM through and through " And another thing I noticed: "Come take him by his lily-white hands Come take him by his feet " So Henry's killer takes him by the hands, but who's taking him by the feet then? Did Henry's killed had a companion? Maybe I'm just taking it too serious. Excellent song, nonetheless though! |

Did Richard really do it? Nothing in the lyrics kinda suggested it. He was a traveling companion. He probably would've had more opportunities to kill her, if it was him. By the time Mary undid the latch of her front door, Richard already left, stating in the lyrics: "Slade tipped his hat and winked his eye And turned away without goodbye" After that, "Mary sat on her bed thinking of home". Then she undid the latch. But Richard was already gone, it doesn't make any sense if he would've come back to see if it happened to be the case that Mary undid the latch of her door. Tragic song, tragic end nonetheless. But was it really Richard? |

I don't know where the lyrics "La la la la la la la la la la La la la la la la la la la la" come from, but their not in the song at all. Can't be bothered to check the cd album myself, but maybe it was in the lyrics book that's added with the cd. "Then one morning I awoke to find her weeping And for many days to follow She grew so sad and lonely Became Joy in name only Within her breast there launched an unnamed sorrow And a dark and grim force set sail Farewell happy fields Where joy forever dwells Hail horrors hail" For me the most interesting part. It still left me in wonders, what happened to this girl called Joy? Miscarriage, cancer, crazy husband. Was it something that happened overnight? |

| This version of the song can be found on "B-sides & Rarities". Which is a not-so-hard-to-get bootleg. (depending on the country you live in ofcourse.) | |

From what I understand is there's only been a good handful of live performances together with Kylie Minogue. On occasions when Kylie couldn't come, Blixa took over her part of the lyrics. Not sure if the song has been done live after Blixa's departure though. |

| Don Henley – The Boys of Summer Lyrics | 15 years ago |

On a dutch radio station I heard, not so long ago. That this song is about a guy singing about 'his' girl who goes away every summer. Basicly he explained that the girl is always cheating on him but that he's fine with it. It does explain the chorus a bit more to me as well "I can tell you my love for you will still be strong after the boys of summer have gone" When she ain't there anymore in the summer, then his love will still be there. And he will continue loving her. Eventhough she's like the star on the beach and gets a lot of male attraction. |

| Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – As I Sat Sadly by Her Side Lyrics | 15 years ago |

What I have come to understand. She tells a story about how wonderful this world is. However it will end for everyone at some point. Then the guy tells her how he is disgusted by how he sees the world. Then she replies that he shouldn't judge 'God's plan'. The last part is interesting. I think she knows well that he is 'right'. That a lot of stuff is happening in this world that just ain't right or can be justified. At which point she starts to weep. He couldn't wipe the smile from his face, because he realised that the woman understands what he means. |
