| The Rolling Stones – Dead Flowers Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
All about heroin. Heroin is derived from opium, which is the sap of the poppy, which is a (very pretty) flower. So, heroin is the remains of the poppy; i.e. "dead flowers." So the song is about sending dope to her through the mail, as a supposed favor, knowing that she'll be dead soon, and you can "put roses on her grave." |

| The Black Crowes – Cursed Diamond Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Okay...this song is about heroin. ALL the songs on "Amorica" are...probably the most drug-centric album of the last 30 years. "So I let the poison go Cause I always know it'll be there for me" 'nuff said. |

"A metallic send-up of "Fat Bottomed Girls" by Queen." ...to a riff nicked from "Cold Gin" by KISS. |

| The Band – The Weight Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I always thought of this song in the sense of the downside of being a non-confrontational hippie: that people were always imposing upon you. I mean, the person singing this song can't catch a break--no place to sleep, and people asking him for favors--but they always are polite, making him for a peaceful hippie who won't shut them down or call them out on their behavior. I went to a Rainbow Gathering in '06 or so...buncha hippies in Arkansas...and it was very hard not to take advantage of their hospitality. Seems to me that they probably get taken advantage of a lot. |

| The Black Crowes – Sting Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I think it's a drug song. I think Chris Robinson--and the rest of the Crowes--were just getting into heroin at the time, and "Sting me" was a cryptic reference to IV drug use...the "sting" of the needle as you penetrate the skin. |

| Metallica – The House Jack Built Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Clearly about alcohol. First: can we all agree the song's about drugs of SOME sort? Second: For those who think it's about heroin, there's already one song like that on Load: "Bleeding Me," so there's no need for a second. Third: The "It swallows me" line (several times in the song) is a Russian Reversal--he's singing about a drug that is swallowed for effect. Nobody swallows heroin to get high (big waste...any other route is much better) Fourth: The song title "The House JACK (Daniels) Built" Fifth: We're talking about a band that took it's name from "Metal+Vodka" Sixth: We're talking about a band nicknamed "Alcoholica" |

| The Black Crowes – Descending Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Yes, I agree: about addiction, def, and most likely heroin. "I'm descending again" Means either "descending into addiction," or that he's getting high on a "downer" type drug. The second verse, with "hand me downs/hand me ups" suggests we're talking about a drug w/ "downer" effects. Sounds like a song about someone who traded in a speed addiction for a heroin addiction. |
