I can see how one might think that if they just haven't taken the time to delve further into the meaning of the song. For those who can relate to it, the melancholy mood of the music completely conveys the emotions and situation being portrayed in the text. The lyrics alone are simple, clever, romantic, and extremely identifiable (obviously pertaining to the separation of a significant other/love interest). I interpret the opening line to be very much like a one sided dialogue: How long? - as in "How long until we are together again?" - then: I said so long - as if the other person asked them to repeat themselves and he changes his response to "So long" or "Goodbye". The rest of the song is up for personal interpretation but I think the last line is referring to the guy going crazy from being away from her, thus waving his mind goodbye. Then the final "Goodbye" going back to the dialogue saying a final farewell. |

Wheeling often in the context of "wheeling and dealing" sometimes refers to a guy in pursuit of a female(s) as coined by Wayne's World II. The ringing could be from girls calling him a lot. It could also mean dealing drugs or doing something else where you are trying to get the advantage. In this case the ringing would be all the customers calling. Also, the word is spelled *aesthetics. |
