It's pretty obvious what this song is about. There are different themes within themes, such as the fact that humans lie withing their own filth, and create their own madness. People, do this by keeping a superficial portrayal of who they are, and thus go after something they really don't want, in order to feed their hunger for whatever this superficial portrayal may be. And she ends up breaking down in the video because she realizes that she does have something meaningful in life, all she see in the mirror is something fake. She doesn't have anything of substance, so she decides to steal (I'm talking about the video).. But the lyrics say the same thing: "And I'll hide from the world behind a broken frame".. Meaning we hide away ourselves, the broken frame is what others see, and we don't give ourselves a chance to become something good for this world, only adding to the corruption we see daily. Sunburn meaning, the corruption, the stealing, the lying the gambling, the sex, the superficial things we turn to, instead of something pleasant.. in which a sunburn is not, it burns your skin, revealing what a sunburn actually does, and in the long term sunburns can give you cancer, and cause scarring, peeled skin (skin again being a theme, and metaphor for superficiality, if the skin is peeled from the sun then yes, we can say that the outer layer of us, is beginning to wear off from the damage we do to ourselves) discolored skin, (also another theme, that our outer selves are just mutated to others)... "And I'll burn forever, I can't face the shame." This line shows how we consider ourselves as shameful, and thus points to another theme that we are ashamed, but we do nothing about it. Or that we remain in this stagnant state. The video is pretty powerful too. This girl looks so much like a zombie... |

| and yes, the word "sunburn" also brings to mind that since daylight is generally blessed upon, as a new day, it is giving a negative connotation to the fact that we all go outside, and are generally exposed (over exposed) by the world... ---> this points to muse's fame and glory. fame and glory being superficial, because people listen to their music but don't really know or understand it. and also the fact that muse is ashamed to admit that they too have taken part in this superficial world, and are becoming sunburned (again the sun being the world)... to them they are not seen for who they are, and so they feel damaged (sunburned)... also the fact that people may try to use them for their fame (the greedy side to it).... | |
| Orbs – Something Beautiful Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| And adding to the thought of christ's brother... I always thought this song was about how parents who never thought their kids were special so the children ended up turning themselves into nothing great because of their low self confidence. That's how I intrepreted it. And the metaphorical meaning of the monsters has to do with how we end up doing the same thing to our children when we "grow up". Its not much about what he does its more about his parents accepting him as a gift with all that he has to offer to the world, and they don't, so he ends up being a mess. | |
| Rob Zombie – Feel So Numb Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Just to put is simple because I dont think we can all agree on an exact meaning: He feels bad about something he did and he felt numb while doing it(he didnt have any true emotions or feelings to what he did)... And now he feels bad about it after thinking about it, and he is just noticing the world around him(all the random stuff). It doesn't have to be something specific like drugs, just the meaning behind the words is that he feels bad, "what have i done?" ....... | |
