I think she's singing about a friend who suffers from a form of depression and sort of enjoys being there...

30 Seconds to Mars – The Kill Lyrics 15 years ago
ok...my interpretation of this song is totally different from everyone else's on here. i don't think he's singing about a relationship or anything, i think he's singing to himself. he's basically saying that he's unhappy with the ways that he's changed as a person, and is really disappointed in himself. jared leto actually said the song is about going insane...like the line "what if i wanted to break, laugh it all off in your face, what would you do?" he's realizing that it's easier to just let himself feel what he needs to feel and get over it, even if what he's feeling doesn't meet the expectations of those around him, even if no one else can understand it. that it's better to be yourself and be happy than to be what everyone wants you to be and be miserable. the reference to the shining in the music video totally goes along with this, too...how every band member eventually faces theirself at the end, during the part that goes "i tried to be someone else, but nothing seemed to change, i know now this is who i really am inside, finally found myself fighting from a chance, i know now this is who i really am". the movie the shining is about a man's slow progression into insanity, which is what jared leto is saying will happen to him if he doesn't stop trying to be someone he's not. he needs to face himself and accept who he is as a person...

Imogen Heap – Headlock Lyrics 15 years ago
First off, I LOVE THIS SONG. Imogen Heap is ahhhhhmazing.

I think this song is definatly about having hope for a currently nonexistant relationship...

"Distant flickering, its greener scenery,
This weathers bringing it all back again.
Great adventures, faces and condensation,
I'm going outside to take it all in"

Maybe she's just getting over a bad relationship, and now she's starting to have feelings for someone else. The good weather could represent that things are better now, and the line "this weather's bringing it all back again" could mean that she's recognizing these feelings from before. "I'm going outside to take it all in" means that she's going to throw herself into this potential relationship, and hope for the best.

"You say too late to start, got your heart in a headlock,
I don't believe any of it.
You say too late to start, with your heart in a headlock,
You know you're better than this."

The person she wants is either recovering from a bad relationship himself, or is making excuses because he doesn't know how to handle her sudden affection. He is obviously underconfident and afraid to take the next step.

"We're a different pair, just something out of step,
Throw a stranger an unexpected smile.
With big intention, still posted at your station
Always on about the day it should have flown."

She realizes they're an unlikely pair, and that it's pretty out of the blue that she has feelings for him. "throw a stranger an unexpected smile/with big intention": they clearly don't know each other very well. He's probably quite confused about the whole thing. He continues to repeat the paterns of daily life, but is always nagging himself about not putting himself out there enough and not taking the chance while he had it. But still, he's coming up with excuses (the chorus)

"I'm walking, you've been hidding,
And you look half dead half the time.
Monitoring you, like machines do,
You've still got it, I'm just keeping an eye"

Even though he's afraid to take the next step and start a relationship with her, she's still satisfied simply by watching him (i don't mean this in a creepy way). She genuinely likes him, and just wants him to be happy.

Don't know if that's what Imogen wanted this to mean, but that's just what I think...
