Nirvana to me, happens to be simultaneously, one of the most overrated and underrated bands out there. They are overrated because songs such as Teen Spirit are overplayed. I am so sick of that song and never want to hear it again in my life. But on the other hand, you have songs like "Dumb", which to me represent sheer beauty. "Dumb" is an amazing song because the lyrics are so simple. To me, they talk about how people are perceived vs. how they actually are. The narrator of this song is beating himself up for going along with everyone else when deep down he knows that he is an intelligent person with opinions of his own. It's a simple concept, but when you add the simple lyrics with the guitar parts that seem to make this song drone on, what you get is magic; the perfect mood evoked through simple chords in music.
And that ladies and gentlemen, is why Nirvana is an underrated band. They don't seem to get enough credit for songs like "Dumb". Sure "Dumb" is on "In Utero", their other famous album, but it gets almost no mention by music critics, the general public. It is almost overlooked by Nirvana's more famous singles. Only die-hard fans would care to comment on "Dumb"'s brilliance. I may not be a die-hard fan yet, but after listening to "Dumb", I am probably more than on my way to becoming one. |

| Civil Twilight – Letters From The Sky Lyrics

The letters in the sky part kind of reminds me of WWII, when the US dropped the atomic bomb on Japan. We warned the people to evacuate the city beforehand. I guess that fits with the whole end-of-the-world theme of this song. |
