The way i see it, its about a couple who have drifted apart due to misunderstandings (...drowning your calls......you're not near). They both want to fix things but can't seem to do it and its hurting frustrating them (its killing me, im dying to put a little sunshine in your life). It eventually becomes clear they do love each other despite what happened in the past (Soleil all over you, warm sun pours over me). They forgive each others transgressions which allows them to heal (Your body moves ever nearer. And you will dry this tear) As the cloud is lifted from their relationship, they have a new found appreciation for each other that lasts the rest of their lifetime (now I'm dry of thoughts, wait for the rain, Then it's replaced, sun setting. And suddenly we're in love with everything) This may or may not be the real meaning of the song but thats what I want it to be :) |

I dont think the conversation ever occurs between the narrator and the wife. My take on it is that the narrator is trying to see things through the perspective of the wife. How would she feel to be in her shoes. She realizes the pain she is inflicting on someone who may be totally undeserving of this punishment. In the end, she knows he will never leave her and the narrator understands and accepts her fate. |

My take on this song is that this guy is in love with this girl who also happens to love him back. But it is an ill fated relationship. Whatever bliss they experience is fleeting because like all dreams, it dies when reality sets in. I believe they are having an affair and that the girl is already in a relationship (she's probably married and likely with kids) she cannot get out of. And he holds on to the unrealistic notion she will chooses him over her partner. So one day he is jolted back to the real world when she finally has to choose between their love and her committment. And she has to make the most painful decision and chooses the latter. In the end he is left with only the bittersweet memories that were......Just Like A Dream |
