| Weezer – Freak Me Out Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| If I didn't know better I would say that it's about a ghost. It's also just a haunting tune, especially that guitar riff at the of the song. | |
| Daniel Johnston – Devil Town Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Well, this might just be how i relate to this song, or songs in general. But this song is about more than drugs. Probably not about drugs at all. So many people think that songs are about drugs, but simply influenced, or drugs are the muse. This song is most likely about a town. Listen to Daniel's lyrics, all of them. Why would this one be so far fetched? He's so true to himself and everyone. That was what got him so far, he was so real... he didn't hide behind his words or anything. | |
| Weezer – Falling For You Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Sorry, I know people on Songmeanings hate it when their 10 year old comments get commented on. But, seriously, you don't think they're talented, not one of them? All four of them (Matt Sharp at the time, not the lame excuse for a bassist, Scott Shriner) are great musicians. First of all, if you are going by technicalities, go listen to jazz or prog rock or something really boring and soulless. They're not all just power chords that River's plays, he has a wide arsenal of chords, and he can rip on the guitar. As for Pinkerton, there are great dual guitar solos and great counter-melodies on nearly every song. The harmonies are not "confused", they're completely creative. No, the harmonies don't stay on the third, or the 5th for the whole harmony. The harmonies weave and intertwine, just perfectly enough to give it that distinct "weezer" sound. It's all about being original, and this album is definitely original. If you listen to The Blue Album Deluxe, you can hear the barber shop harmonies on My Evaline, or the Rock n Roll harmonies on Susanne. One thing weezer knows, is how to sing a tune. Everything on Pinkerton was intentional. Pat Wilson's drumming, at first could seem like a 10 year old learning how to play drums, then halfway thru the song, you keep listening and you hear all the little things he does, it's great. He has his own taste, keeps it simple, but there is not a song where he doesn't shine. I could clearly pick out Pat's drumming anywhere, I know this for a fact, because the first time i listened to the Rentals' first record, I said, wow that sounds a lot like weezer's drums; i was correct. To comment to you directly, you are correct, Rivers is a strong songwriter. Songwriting is a part of musicianship, it is actually the biggest part of musicianship, if you can't write a good song, then you're forever a backing player. Also, another piece of info, Rivers was studying music at harvard when he was writing this album, so he does know quite a bit about music theory. By the way, listen and try to pick out all of the chords to Across the Sea, even the key changes, then try to pick out all of the notes. It'll take you a little while. When Rivers calls himself "3-chord me", he's obviously being humble. Now if you look at current day weezer, and songs like beverly hills, yeah, now he's right about himself. |

| Lady GaGa – Born This Way Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I completely agree. These lyrics are so pathetic. For the record, "Orient" is politically incorrect... therefore these lyrics are racist to asians. If you believe in HIM you were not born that way... you were brought up in a sick household or you are worshipping HIM because you think you're cool like all those goth retards. Don't be a drag, just be a queen (clever lyrics, you really outdid yourself gaga). If God makes no mistakes, why would you worship HIM? If God makes no mistakes how do you explain the disabled and the diseased? And gaga, you're not brave, if you were brave you wouldn't have sold out. | |
| Bright Eyes – Haile Selassie Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Yeah, I totally hear that too. It also makes more sense... | |
| Conor Oberst – NYC-Gone, Gone Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I love this song so much. I sing it whenever I'm leaving the city to go up to college. Makes me feel so good to get out of the anxious city. The reason the lyrics are so unlike anything Conor as written (lacking depth), is because he is making a statement about how uninspiring the city is. | |
| Conor Oberst – NYC-Gone, Gone Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Well technically they weren't the mystic valley band yet. So they were just musicians working on the album with him, just like other albums (excluding mike mogis). Therefore is was just released under Conor's name. After the album, when they started touring, they became a steady band. | |
| Bright Eyes – Light Pollution Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
The lyrics are metaphorical. Not to be taken in a literal sense. Since when does Oberst ever write exactly how it is? Books could represent knowledge. That Hobson lent him knowledge. Mic stands could be a foundation for his voice. Sorry I'm 6 years late on the reply, but I couldn't resist myself. |

| I think this Bright Eyes song is timeless. By far my favorite song he's written. The new album so far is sounding a lot like Digital Ash. I'm so excited. | |
| Bright Eyes – Light Pollution Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| You go all the way to the bottom of the page. And then there's a box to write it. Kind of stupid, I know. | |
| Bright Eyes – Shell Games Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Good point. But also (just for your information) Sisyphus was a king punished by being compelled to roll an immense boulder up a hill. Then the boulder would fall back down, and he would have to repeat pushing the boulder up the hill forever. This is where it originated, in a greek myth. I read the Myth Of Sisyphus, and you forgot the important line Oberst states, "Now that's the only place to be free". That basically sums up Camus' essay. Where living in an absurd world, is the only place for you to be free. |

| Bright Eyes – Shell Games Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Well if you know what a shell game is, it's a game of chance. It's when a bead, or marble of some sort, is placed under a cup (or shell) and there are two empty cup. A person moves it around and the one playing the game has to guess which cup the bead is under. So I'm going to assume it is your second choice, a relationship. Being that the chorus is also about love. Your other ideas don't seem to really go along with the idea of a shell game. |

| Miracle of 86 – Every Famous Last Word Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Agreed. such a good song. I i'm pretty sure it has to be "Alpha bet you" also... cause it only makes sense. I think he just wrote it in the lyric book as alphabet for fun, and he probably also thought the wordplay was funny. Cause it doesn't make any sense. I've sat on the idea, but there's no way that is metaphorical haha. | |
| Taking Back Sunday – Follow The Format Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| well, Jesse wasn't in the band even for the first record, and John wasn't in the band anymore for this album. I'm guessing some of it was written by Adam (lyrics and basic chords) and other parts may have been written by Fred. | |
| Taking Back Sunday – Follow The Format Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Such a great song. But at the end, adam also says "Best friends means: I hope you're comfortable". | |
| Bad Books – How This All Ends Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| yeah i agree with you. it's very existential. also ironic that they start the album with a song titled, "How This All Ends". | |
| Willow – Whip My Hair Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| she looks like the kid who plays everybody hates chris. | |
| Bad Books – The Easy Mark & the Old Maid Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| well he's obviously talking about luck and how it seems everyone really has no luck. The real luck comes from doing real things that don't take chance into consideration. | |
| Taking Back Sunday – The Ballad of Sal Villanueva Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| only if adam was going out with a guy... otherwise, we assume that this is a girl that's doing the cheating. | |
