Kermit the Frog – Rainbow Connection Lyrics 12 years ago
I have to completely disagree with your statement that "this is the only interpretation that will fit every lyric together". Saying that the rainbow is the Bible is a *really* big stretch and almost certainly not what the author was thinking when he wrote this song. I also highly doubt Kermit the Frog would endorse much of the Bible.

On the other hand, "Rainbows are visions, but only illusions / And rainbows have nothing to hide / So we've been told and some choose to believe it / I know they're wrong, wait and see," does seem to be an indication of a belief that there is something more to life than mere science, something special or spiritual that we can't put our finger on, a connection between all human beings. Your mistake is to assume this is a reference to Christianity, which by the way led to a lot of wars and the Catholic church being intolerant to a ton of people - once again, this is not something Kermit would endorse.

I haven't seen the Muppet movie for context, but it seems that Kermit actually goes on to criticize the view he just expressed with the next two stanzas. In the end of the song, he repudiates his "scientific" thinking and says that this connection he feels is too strong; he can't ignore it; he will figure out what it means.

This song is not only perfectly compatible, but also better explained, as simply an innocent frog's musings on the beauty of humanity - musings on why there is such a strong tendency for humans to live, love, explore, and feel connections with each other, and musings that such feelings lack a clear explanation, though they are so strong.

This song has nothing to do with Jason Mraz's sexual orientation.

The Lonely Island – I'm on a Boat Lyrics 12 years ago
To clarify, I am an atheist now. Also, I never meant to say this was a Christian song (definitely not!), just that if you somehow had to stretch an interpretation that would be the best way to go about it.

The Lonely Island – I'm on a Boat Lyrics 15 years ago
First of all, no Bible believing Christian would endorse this song, due to its language. If someone HAD to put a Christian interpretation to it though, here is my best shot:

This song is an allegory to the tower of Babel and the Titanic. The narrator is like one of the people trying to build the tower of Babel. "gonna fly this boat to the moon somehow" is comparable to building a "tower that will reach the heavens." The builder/sailor thinks the tower/boat is the best thing ever, and that from this "anything is possible." The builder/sailor mocks God/Poseidon. He is "flipping burgers," living a life full of vain, worldly indulgences, and mocking the hard-working Christian (or Jew, at the time) "at Kinko's flipping copies." This song is all about how great and enjoyable sin is. However, to put a Christian spin on it, say the boat is the Titanic...and we all know what happens next....

On a side note, if the lyrics were changed, this could be made into a good Noah's ark song...because Noah "never thought he'd be on a boat" and it certainly would have been a "BIG blue watery road."

Billy Currington – People are Crazy Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song has a twofold meaning. First, I think it says that we never know who we meet could be. Secondly, I think it says that we touch people in ways we do not even begin to realize.
