I don't have a clue if this is right, but to me this song feels like summer and friendship and being young. The time of life we're you're "floating stranded" and not sure of who you are or who you want to be. The line "sweet, sweet sun's comin' down" is so euphoric, it reminds me of thinking "oh, fuck this" and forgetting all your troubles. Reminiscent of the "everything is going wrong, but we're so happy" lyric from the Wombats. The lyrics also make me think of friends sticking together through everything ("hold a hand for cover"). Just my possibly obscure take :) |

I agree with Bears09. This song has such an amazing message and a great personal connection for me. To me, it speaks about fighting your inner demons and/or fighting for what you believe in and what you deserve. Personally, this song has inspired me to fight against certain thoughts I've been having lately that could lead to an unstable mental state. A Warning to the people The Good and the Evil This Is War - fighting all the people who've ever been there or tried to help (the good) or the people who've brought you down and made you feel worthless (the evil). We're going to fight, basically. Its the moment of truth and the moment to lie - the moment to tell the truth about how you've been feeling. The moment to face up to the problems and tackle them head on...or run away. The moment to live and the moment to die - the moment to make the decision to fight. Fight and you win. Give up and you die. The moment to fight, the moment to fight, to fight, to fight, to fight To the right To the left we will fight to the death To the Edge of the Earth, It's a Brave New World from the last to the first - Obviously, the moment to beat your inner demons. "We will fight to the death" of the negative thoughts and emotions. We'll go to any extremes to emerge a new person. The slow ending is obviously the victory, the moment where you know you're winning or the moment you know you CAN win. You can get there. |

Someone once, I forget who it was, Said, do not think so much You cant hear what your heart says. My heart speaks In tugs and puddle-leaps And bangs my ribs to pieces. Thoughts are the safe bet. I think "puddle leaps" is right. Her heart speaks in "tugs and puddle leaps" which, to me, means very short but forceful, frequent beats - hence they "bang my ribs to pieces". So she will rely on her thoughts as opposed to her heart, which refers back the the "do not think so much, (or) you can't hear what your heart says". I think it's supposed to be like a sort of endless cycle: the more she thinks, the less she can understand from her heart, so she decides not to trust her heart and tries thinking again...but then she can't understand, etc. And how you razed me to the ground And how you wore me down With the sound of the shaming as you went out. "razed" should be "raised". It's an oxymoron, or irony perhaps - he's put her down so much that she is as low as the ground. Which is why she says "you wore me down". I adore this song :D Love Alison's music <3 |
