Muse – Resistance Lyrics 15 years ago
Oh yes, And also other songs like United States of Eurasia lol. Eurasia was the enemy that big brother (the system) was always claiming to be at war with. Definitely 1984 all the way

Muse – Resistance Lyrics 15 years ago
1984, The thought police were the force that literally took you prisoner and or killed you, or forced you to confess to crimes you didn't commit and they would wipe your existence from history as if you never existed at all. The resistance is what the books about, I won't spoil it but This is right on with the book. It's exactly how the main character in the book looked at his relationship with a young 26 year old who was even better at pretending to support the system while quietly disturbing it with any kind of breakage of rules. Anything even making love was outlawed for these people. Their love was the thing that strengthened their ability to fight back, to overcome fear and take a first step. Upon joining the resistance they said they would happily die, happily pour acid on a child's face if need be to bring the system to it's knee's, but they wouldn't leave each other. Beautifully written, if you haven't read the book at least try it. This is phenomenal shit here, capturing the essence of the entire book in such a short song. Fucking genius. Really a hell of a love story.

City and Colour – What Makes a Man? Lyrics 16 years ago
This song strikes me as being about fear and possibly even self-loathing. The title "what makes a man" implies that the lyrics are referencing the answer to the question. What makes a man... and then he goes to describe things he not only relates to but seems to know first hand. Obviously if he can hear his train coming, and times still on his side, He's still aware of death speeding towards him which is a reminder you're alive. It takes on in the form of four situations (in the question form) in his life he's had to deal with and he puts two brief and yet relevant to being human notions of being out in nature feeling the wind and watching the sunset to break the song up a little, which is a phenomenal touch. But what he's getting at is telling you the answer, What makes a man..? And I have to say Fear and possibly self loathing is enough to make you want to walk away from your mind (drugs perhaps? alcohol?). Fear and/or self loathing is the kind of thing that would make you recede into yourself and never let anyone see who you really are or keep yourself from being. What would make you want to break a heart with ease, but being too afraid to jump in, or too afraid to let yourself have something you don't think you deserve. What makes a man pray before he dies but fear of the unknown, knowing nothing and feeling truly helpless regardless of how you lived your life or how puffed up you were before. When he sais I think i know it's his way of saying these things in a nutshell aren't appealing actions or necessarily the way you would want to choose but it's so relatable that even he can understand and say I think i know exactly why someone does these things. It's very poetic.
