Theres something to this song about past and future. I think its about her marriage which in ended in divorce which is referenced in the first verse. "Somewhere behind us we went the way of the white willow whale" Also the idea of moving on is mentioned in the chorus as "lifting off the lid of all I know" which can be like opening yourself to new and different things to forget the past. Finally the idea that she plans to move on is that she mentions "the west wind knows inciting broken chimes" which is about herself moving on even though she's broken hearted

I'm just saying this but the song could be written from a third person perspective. From a guy's point of view he'd be saying that "Come over here lady" line. It would make sense since I've noticed some of KT's songs lend themselves to be written from a different point of view and not just a one dimensional song. Very deep :)

I've lived this very song, for about a year I was making plans with a girl in Calgary (I lived in the twin cities) and eventually she couldn't handle things and she ended things. I was crestfallen and very disappointed, everyday I kept listening to this song knowing that the same thing had happened to me. It does hurt but it is true, can you still love somebody when you can't see them anymore ?
