Say goodbye to the world you though you lived in suggests to me waking up from the dream of how you saw the world. The wonderful thing about this song (well, one of the things) is that it can apply to so many situations. To me it means the end of a love, whether through the death of the affair, or the person themselves. Suddenly there we are stripped bare of all those defences we hid behind, pretending the world was just and fair, and now we stand and look at life as it really is, red in tooth and claw. Wonderful song, truly the depths of loneliness and grief, from which the only way is up. |
