Personally, I think the song is about a man falling in love with his straight best friend who is also male. I think "Can you lie next to her And give her your heart, your heart As well as your body" refers to the friend and the friend's girlfriend. The man believes or hopes the friend loves him more than his girlfriend. He sings "And can you lie next to her And confess your love" because he thinks the friend doesn't love his girlfriend. The man loves his friend: "But tell me now, where was my fault In loving you with my whole heart" but the the friend just wants to stay friends: "You desired my attention but denied my affections, my affections" Well, that's how i listen to it anyway. I think all interpretations are valid. Oh and i love mumford & sons :) hooked on them at the moment. |
