I don't believe in a lot of theories posted on songmeanings. I guess most are too big. This isn't about nations or the whole world. This is about how someone doubts the way he is living. He is scared that he isn't anything, he failed in living, his friends aren't real friends, his baby is letting him down. He's scared as shit. He wishes he could be happy: like the normal people. I think it is just about divorce. He remembers how it was, but he and his husband/wife fight a lot at home, not thinking about their children, just fighting (no thought of him as it was done, refers to divorcing but not thinking about their son). Then he thinks how it used to be: cool like the ocean, burned like a summer home (this might refer to their passion on their vacations together). A very sad song about how things pass away. |

So here's my theory: it's about someone that is abandoned in his youth by his parents, his life now as and adult sucks and is falling apart.

I guess this is about the things that trouble him. Stop the season stop the sting might refer to suicidal thoughts: 'just stop it all, stop the pain (the sting)'. The infected wound from a rusty ring means he's married to a woman he doesn't like anymore (what a beautifully found line by the way)

I guess this is like a prophecy, everybody will feel this way once in his life, even the happy people that try to cheer him up.

The first line might refer to sexual abuse by his father/mother as a child, a memory he tries to forget (can't recall). Growing up like that will derail everybody. The forgotten prison might refer to place he hides to escape his famliy.

It's no wonder that we did it this way, that line refers to the programme to derail us all. So I guess he tries to explain why he did what he did (perhaps this again refers to his relationship that is failing).
