I like how people can pull what they want from this song, but personally I think this song deals with existentialism. You were born, you always questioned, why am I here? what will I do? for what reason? what does it exactly mean to be alive? is this a personal feeling, or mutual? Stuff like that we all think sub consciously throughout our lives, we all approach it differently, some through science, others religion, or for others just putting it off and ignoring it. I saw Missing Persons perform live last night, this was the second to last song they played for the night, (they played walking in la last), but Dale went on a rant for what seemed like 20 minutes before actually playing the song. She spoke mostly about her personal trials and tribulations, politics, current world affairs, the individual and your importance, sticking it to the man, and numerous other topics. But even though she was drunk she was making sense. I don't know who personally wrote this particular song but she seemed to have a deep personal connection to it and my guess is she wrote the lyrics. She also spoke about religion and how we must be humble and not give in to the rat race and all the greed in the world, because God could snatch it away from you in an instant. Anyways I love this song and whenever I question the big picture and why the fuck we are here, I just listen to this song and it makes me know and feel better that others are in the same situation. IMO one of the best songs from the new wave era, its intelligent, well written and catchy. Something that many bands lack to do in their music. |

| Bad Religion – You Are (The Government) Lyrics

To me this song is frustration due to the mass short sighted, unwise, unwilling, stupidity of the people. People do their part by voting, but they seem to think that is where it ends. I think the song is telling you that you can't let politicians fuck you over. Bureaucracy is not the government, politicians are not the government, You Are The Government. Think about it, if the people demanded George Bushes head on a platter when he was committing all of those crimes as president, it would have been done. People are too caught up in their own bullshit and never ending rat race to see why things are difficult for them in the first place. Most of the time it is because of a jacked up system. Our constitution is set up for us to revise and change things for the better, but we choose not to do it. This song is a cry to the masses. The masses didn't get it in 1988 and they still haven't gotten today. |

No! No! No! No! No! You are all wrong, this song and album is not complex as you say, it all has to do with one man, (Chino Moreno), and his experience with a cute hippie girl. Just as he is about to nookie he finds she has a wookie growing where it shouldn't be. Then he tries to avoid her, doesn't answer her calls, etc. But he goes to parties and she's always there. The cover of this album is a representation of his bad experience when he went to a party and she was sitting next to the pool he approached her not knowing it was the au naturale hippie girl, the photo is moments before the confrontation. Basically this whole album is about Chino getting with a hippie one night and avoiding her, hence "around the fur". You are all foolish for thinking it's anything more. With that being said this is one fucking great song! This whole album is awesome, heavy stuff like Adrenaline, but cleaner sounding. PS: No offense to hippies, bush is cool too if that's what your into, I like Bush in moderation. They try to sound like Nirvana though. :/ :D HAHAHA Too many double entendre's ahhhhhh! |
