This is about her mom, and how she's been there for her through it all. Yes, I know it makes a few references to her father, but you can tell that she's speaking directly to her mom. "Daddy's smart, and YOU'RE THE PRETTIEST LADY IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD." The whole song is about her relationship with her mom. In the beginning, she recalls a memory from when she was little and she and her mom were together at a farm in autumn (hence the coat, pumpkin patch, and tractor rides). In the second verse, she recalls being 13. She comes home from school crying because her friends hurt her. The two of them drive around and talk, and Taylor is glad to be with her mom. She doesn't know how things will blow over with her friendship problems, but she knows that her mom is always there for her, and that things will be okay. Taylor says that she's now older and wiser, but she still needs her mom. She thanks her for always being supportive and helping her through it all. |

I don't think that this is necessarily literally about a celebrity. I think it's about a guy who's popular or older than her. "I'm no one special, just a wide-eyed girl who's desperately in love with you." She's daydreaming about him from afar, because she knows her chances with him are slim. She puts on a pedestal, like a celebrity. Like a crazed fan, she's wild about him, but has to accept that he'll probably never feel the same way. "So dim that spotlight, tell me things like, 'I can't take my eyes off of you.'" She wants to know what he's really like underneath it all. Even though all the girls are after him for his looks/athletic ability/whatever, she really wants him to "dim the spotlight" so she can know the real guy underneath his act. |
