This songs agenda is closely reflected in the few lines at the start of the music video; "once you said to me that peace and happiness may be found, you gave me hope, but now...now i must say goodbye." This mirrors an individual who has chosen to invest in another, to mask the scars of a previous relationship. As that individual is reminded every time they hear the 'tick of time' that are waiting for a chance of redemption, a chance to step into that love once more. The individuals present lover is purely a victim of artificial love which has been created to solve the human emotion of loneliness, and to bandage previous wounds. People are frightened to be alone, and when relationships turn sour, they wonder whether life could be better? But the grass is never greener and they soon wish to salvage the ever eroding memories of the past; 'caught up in circles' and hoping for a second tick of time, before they are left behind. But until then, they will always be waiting....time after time. |

I think the person in this has been far and wide looking for a suitable match in a women (I rode a ladder that climbs across the nation), Ladder meaning track. He's finally found a women who he believes is right for him however he realises she only is with him because its cold where she comes from. Therefore only with him because she's got no one else. He's only someone to conquer her boredom and lonelyness, He believes its like a ghost train because the relationship is so up and down where he doesnt know weather she is staying or going.He never knows what shes thinking and it hurts him inside. However he wants to hold onto her and see what happens. (hold onto me darling, i've got nowwhere else to go) and he keeps on trying to hold onto this one special girl. However the relationship turns bitter and she fades into the distance (Watched the diesel disappear beneath the tumbling waves) e.g. watched the relationship crash and burn. But at the end he knows he was right all a long. She didnt truly love him the way he loved her. He was only a stepping stone to the rest of her life. Its a great song, awesome lyrics. But In my opinion i think "Rider" is referring to a women, and the mean jumper blues is just the way he's feeling blue, Because he can't have his rider. The allusions of this song is that a women is with a joker (man) who is not treating her right and the person whos telling this song goes to the womens house every morning and every night to comfort her. Thats why it said i feel like jumping through the keyhole in your door aka jumping into your life.
