okay so the first stanza, this is what came to my mind the first time i read the lyrics and listened to the song while reading, but only the first stanza (i had no idea what the rest of the song said bc i paused it right there to think about the lyrics.) Ttry to picture this without reading what comes next. only this first stanza) -Up on a hill, that's where we begin -This little story, a long time ago. [Now there's a break. He has given you the setting of his "little story" and given you some important information: 1. we are located up on a hill (because that's where we (his audience-listeners- and him) begin. he is literally telling us a story through his lyrics while we are here listening to his music (story)! 2.this "little" story (on a hill.. a long time ago.. this little story, shows that this is from his childhood past) adding "a long time ago" so we know this could be an old memory -Start to pretend, stop pretending -It seems this game is simply never-ending *Another pause these lyrics seem like they are reminding his audience to try to get in the mind set of so long ago, imagine yourself in his shoes (in his memory) of a long time ago when he was on a hill as a child. "it seems..ending" looks like he is talking about how this game is never ending, society has it as looking down on someone if they act liek a child agian. he is in this mature and constricted world but just try to be youthful again, is what he's asking. "Oh, in the sun, sun having fun It's in my blood. I just can't help it, Don't want you here right now, Let me go Let me a go-go-go-go-go-go-go-go." Can you say WOW!? The emotion behind each of his words, is incredible. he really knows how to paint a picture in his listener's mind. so he's in the sun its a sunny day on a hill and he reminds us that its in his blood (he just canNOT help it!) he wants to be alone and free and enjoy this day but the other person he doesn't want to be there (maybe his father, i don't know or another relative, etc) is there ! and he (LISTEN TO HIS EMOTION BEHIND THIS!!) screams "dont want you here right now" (and then as they pick him up from this perfect moment on the sunny day on a hill) he screams "let me go, let me g-g-g-g-g-g goo). he literally sounds like a baby screaming and about to start crying who cant finish the word "go" thus sounding out the "g-g-g-g-g-g go". SUCH strong emotions! and it really does sound like this story could work by just listneing to the first stanza! i love it. this is why i love the people in strokes, they are MASTERMIND writers and musicians!! |
