| Metallica – King Nothing Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I think that it is about greed, but not necessaily about wanting everything and trying to take all. I see it ass a reference to coporate america and the ceo's and such who see it as their life goal to ammass a great wealth. So what if they are greedy, Thats not what the song is about. Its the fact that these people although are kings in society and socially, are kings of nothing. They have no community, no family, nothing to love, and no one to love them back. They dont donate becuase they want to, if they do only becuase its social protocol. Thats what it means to me. They have everything but they don't know whats important and are kings, but kings of nothing (of actual value) | |

I think its a matter or perspective in the world and a reference to maybe not dwell on all the depressing facts/situations but also not to forget about them as well. These people are still important and are in a situation have bad luck etc. I kinda am confused about the reference to suicide in here. ie Standing on a bridge Watch the water passing underneath It must have been much harder when there was no bridge, just water although very emotional and moving it doesn't necessarily connect to the other lyrics so well imo. Like to know others thoughts. |

I always thought this was a dark and stormy time (reflecting emotional turmoil) almost set back a couple hundred years. In this case the women would be chosen who and when to marry. In the story we have the emotional turmoil surrounding the young woman going to marry a man not of her choosing meanwhile she is in love, (or at least the guy is) with someone else. She contemplates a decision where her reasons tend to fly away and she seems distant while later the guy wants to take at least one last walk with her and have sex. This inner turmoil leads her to this (possibly literal, ie moving between towns, or theoretical in reference to 4 paths and no straight line) to the Four Winds hotel where her paths are barred and shes forced to choose between two paths, one easily possible and the other more hopeful (hence only a mirror or a reflection). They go out and watch the stars. In response to the whole lesbian/threesome, given the time period it would be perfectly acceptable if this young lady had a Miss Carrie Nurse accompany her on her journey to her betrothed. |
