| @[sm000:53552] 16 years later... not sure if you'll even see this, but for me you hit the nail on the head. This song always reminds me of my late father who took on many burdens and I totally get why he connected to this song as much as he did. No matter how we try to unload these burdens... we just take on more because we care about others and always find ourselves carrying the weight. | |

After reading all the comments here, I'm really surprised that no one really gets it... He's singing about the dreaded family gatherings that come around the holidays with the people you're supposed to be close to you, but you aren't. At least that's what I get out of it. Brilliant song to say the least. |

So I'm reading everyone's comments - some really good btw... and it hits me... I'm trying to figure out what the deal is w/Australopithecine... so here's my 2 cents - being a father a girl and all... It seems to me that the song is about young parents - excited about the child's birth - the child is famous - it's what's on your mind and all you talk about prior to the child being born. Silent - not knowing if it will be a boy or a girl - everybody gasped when they find out the sex of the child. Parenthood comes natural - no need for a map - and the basics are all that's required - learning to read, sharing, manners... A ruse, a Laugh and Australopithecine to me represent that the child is underdeveloped at birth - perhaps premature. The experts tell the parents not to worry, because the hospital machines are state of the art and things will be fine, however, the parent(s) are unsure and feel they need a second opinion because they don't want to lose their baby. |
