I think this song is about a person who alienated everyone else. The line "as you long for intuition" makes it seem like they wanted to be better than everyone, which would be the reason why they wanted to be better. The pin card, the lifeguard, and information guy are all people you can depend on, and I that means everyone looked up to the person in a way. Missing the signal and the signpost both refer to stop signs. The person missed the signals to stop trying to alienate them, and now everyone that used to look up to that person is alienating them in return, leaving that person all alone, thus the term "freak." Maybe the person realized that trying to be better than everyone got them no where, only landing them with other freaks. I also think that's what the lyrics mean by "learning the lesson twice." |
