I think it's sort of like her disclaimer, like her warning label, she is telling everyone that wants to know, that she can't and won't ever be what they want her to be. she has a side to her that's dark and twisted, depression maybe idono but something that she can't change. it's a part of her. and I feel like even though she maybe be watching he life go up in flames, she's not sorry. because she warned them. instead she welcomes them to be in the darkness with her. I kind of like the fact that she's content with her problems. "why not understand and see I never saw what you saw in me" she knows what she is and asks everyone to just accept it. she seems like she is numb, she's just used to the loss and people leaving. it's just another day. welcome to it. to me, this isn't a sad song about a lost relationship. this is her anthem. her disclaimer to whoever crosses her path, that she is trouble and she doesn't give a f*** what anyone thinks. I love this song |

| i think that in the song she is talking about god. there are a lot of references to milk and honey in the bible. i think maybe the song is sort of like a prayer. "your warm whispers, out of the dark they carry my heart." and "into the dawn they carry me through." its like shes talking to god. but i dont know. lol just a thought. i dont even kno if she's religious or not | |

haha it sounds like they are totally mocking the government! "Evil $ I yes to find a shore A beach that doesn't quiver anymore Where we could crush some plants to paint my walls" >>> ok so the USA likes to take over countries/new land("shores") for resources and overall, money. To get what they want, they kill and start wars, leaving anything in their way dead. "a beach that doesnt quiver anymore" means a country where there is little life left. like nothings moving cuz its dead. now they can use the land to make money. 'who cares about plants, lets make paint with them! screw nature!' then... "Was I? I was to lazy to bathe Or paint or write or try to make a change Now I can shoot a gun to kill my lunch And I don't have to love or think too much" >>>again, mocking the government. they're lazy, unclean (not literally but meaning more like "corrupted") and they are not artistic. they are single minded bastards. they just kill and it doesnt even have an affect on them anymore. the government likes the phrase, "ignorance is bliss." lol and also, the last two lines of this verse remind me of The Rhyme Of The Ancient Mariner. if anyones ever read it lol "Instant battle plans written on the sidewalk Mental mystics in a twisted metal car Tried to amplify the sound of light and love" >>ha ok so to me this has "war in iraq" written all over it. the decision was made so quickly. twisted metal car= tank? and the whole time, telling the people "its all good, its for our wonderful united states" making them believe war and killing is OK. "Christ is cursed of faders and maders Might even take a knife to split a hair Or even scare the children off my lawn Giving us time to make the makeshift bombs" >>ok not sure about the "faders maders" lol but the next lines are awesome. i think its a metaphor for the US government taking over other countries. "children off my lawn"= natives, out off our way! and knife splitting a hair= unnecessary force. |

a lot of the comments talk about the line, "communication is easy as the ocean." they say that it means communicating can be easy and calm like the ocean going back and forth. i heard the line differently. it sounds sarcastic. because oceans are not easy. at all. they are rough and wild and strong. i think this line means communication is never easy. its back and forth, and its rough. this is such a great line. very profound. i fucking love MGMT lol |

the reference to corn is because even if you cut of the actual corn, the stalk will go on living and grow back again. i still dont kno what "gray-fly choir" is supposed to mean. does anyone? oh by the way, if you have never seen this musical, you definitely should at some point in your life. ive seen it like 5 times. its the best! |
