To me, this song seems like he had a girlfriend that went away to Gainseville, but is coming back to visit tallahasse, and he is so happy to see her. She is just visiting , but he wants her to stay. he is basically saying that the "Galley Alley rooftop just keeps calling out your name to come and stay" she belongs to this town, that its practically singing out a song for her to stay. He is trying to convince her to stay, and enjoy the city sights, the sunset the stars! Anything to keep her by his side. He tried so hard to write her a song that will convince her to stay. And if she does stay, they can call eachother cute nicknames "babydoll" and they will live happily ever after.. BUT! this actually doesnt happen. Its only what he desires, and he wrote this song in an attempt to keep her in tallahassee. :) |

To me, it seem like what most of you said was right... Somewhat. Him and his long lasting girlfriend didnt have much time together , because she is dying. So he sneaks into her house to have one last night of love . He goes on saying that when she goes down, he will go down with her too. That when she dies, a little piece of her will always remain deep within his soul, and a little piece of him will die also... And as he is looking back on this, all he can do is drink his problems away. Toasting to all the great memories they've had together , because soon she'll be dead. and just another memory. this song makes me tear up man... |
