Built to Spill – Stab Lyrics 16 years ago
How come people on keep saying that he doesn't put any meaning into his song? His songs are clearly more than gibberish. Even just the line "Stab in a wet paper bag", that is not non-sense. Clearly talking about the futility. You are clearly underestimating Doug Marsch.

Built to Spill – The Weather Lyrics 16 years ago
I don't feel like I can give a large generalization for this song as with most built to spill songs, so here is a few lines:

Youre okay in your secret place,
With no one bothering you.
It might save time if I meet you there, but I dont care
Id rather wait for you.

This seems to be about opening up to someone in a relationship. We all have a "secret place" and it oftens seems better not to let anyone in there. Hes saying its ok if this person won't let him in right away. He'll wait.

As long as its talking with you,
Talk of the weather will do.

As everyone has said already. A great line. Its great because so much about love isn't about the big deep conversations(such as talking about your secret place). But when someone means something to you, even conversations about insignificant things are great. I always think about this lyric when I talk to people about the weather. Talking about the weather is such a default conversation when you have nothing to talk about. Its so meaningless. I kind of hate it and I think Doug Martsch might too.

Nobodys hoping for better days
No one knows what to do.

I can't help but want to relate this line to what I said already. When you have those deep connections with someone, it often seems like everyone else seems so shallow. Other conversations seem so meaningless.

Probably just based on my own experiences and relating it to myself, but this is how I took it.
