It`s something to do with a Highlander being captured by the English. He was to be put to death, so he`d reach Scotland by "the low road" or the underworld/afterlife. I take it the "high road" means the land of the living. Fantastic song! Makes me want to be proud to be Scottish, even tho I`m Welsh :) |

I get homesickness from this song too. Also I think it`s a very sad song; full of reminiscences. Going back to one`s childhood. Giving up on the "now" of it all. Maybe due to a trauma, a memory loss or dementia? Just my thoughts. This song always leaves a lump in me throat and a tear in my eye. |
