Well said! I really liked this song and then listened to the lyrics. He's insecure and trying to gain control so he yells at her (etc) but "it's not her fault." Sounds like abuse. |

Definitely the poppiest song on this album. I think its about recognizing somebody's struggle but being unable to do anything about it. I'd love to help you, but I can't. But if I could, I would. I guess that's kinda obvious, huh. |

Honestly, not the best cover. He sings it soooo slowly, it just makes me want to listen to the original by Concrete Blonde. Still cool that he covers it though, its a great song. |

So good. I know its a political song but I kind of like making it personal in my head. Could be about a clique or social circle talking shit. Hm. Maybe I am bitter. |

I love Slumber Party. Their 1st two albums were the best though. And their cover of "Love Will Tear Us Apart." |

| Kevin Devine – The Shift Change Splits the Streets Lyrics

His brother Michael was out doing heroin. Kevin stole money from him for his own drugs or whatever. And the last part is about focusing on his brother's drug problems while neglecting his own problems. "I wrote the horse you rode in on a letter
to keep the focus off me, and make it stay there"
Kind of connects with his other song "You'll Only End Up Joining THem" - where his brother tells him not to follow his path of drugs and death.

No, it's about his sister who is a lesbian. His parents (or at least dad) did not treat her well and wished she had been a son. |

yes. it's pretty clear. his older brother died of aids. this song is about him being very depressed and using drugs. and being tempted to die, to be with his brother. but then deciding to choose to live instead. "don't kill yourself to raise the dead, it never works, you'll only end up joining them." |
