I don't agree with what you said about her bein suffocated in a relationship. She's suffocated with work, because she's a person that is so concentrated. She's always working, that when she goes out she can't enjoy her self. The ringing that is bothering her is her head telling her to get back to work and concentrate on her career. |

I believe that in this song the "Telephone" she keeps mentioning in her thoughts is her conscience. They're her thoughts constantly reminding her to work and work because she's a person that is always working and it's a daily routine for her and when she finally decides to get off her daily routine she can't enjoy it. She tries to go out to party for once but that ringing of the telephone just won't leave her alone and it keeps remaining her, almost suffocating her. She feels suffocated from all the phone calls and things she has to do that she cannot go out and have good times without someone calling her or having to do work. |
