| Meshuggah – Break Those Bones Whose Sinews Gave It Motion Lyrics
| 13 years ago
|
This song title is an excerpt from a quote by philosopher, physician, organist, and 1952 Nobel Peace Prize winner Albert Schweitzer:
"Revenge... is like a rolling stone, which, when a man hath forced up a hill, will return upon him with a greater violence, and break those bones whose sinews gave it motion." |

| Carnifex – Hell Chose Me Lyrics

Given this song speaks of hell and the music video takes place in a Church, is it safe to draw a connection between the falling of the curtain just after
God damn this world
God damn my life
I didn't choose hell
Hell choose me
that it's giving a wink at the curtain falling in the temple during Jesus' resurrection? No, I'm not a Christian. I just thought of the connection when I saw this in the video. |

The general meaning of this song is also in the video for this song. Which also further explains what Devin discussed about the meaning.

At 2:25 you can see the viewing of all the religious symbols and from what I can tell, the old man in the song is a "God" figure who is upset that Devin has surpassed the need for him/it in life. |

Sounds simple to me. Thing's will continue to happen and may go to shit no matter what you do. Just finally letting go and stop caring one way or another. The friend could be a real person or it could be talking metaphorically about music or something else "saving" you from falling into the same hole like before. |

| Dark Tranquillity – Terminus (Where Death Is Most Alive) Lyrics
| 15 years ago
|
It is the only place I know
Where death is most alive
Reading into those lines by themselves I feel as though death obviously would represent the end but in this context finding the end of whatever the goal is will be the only place you find yourself happy or "most alive". |

I'd have to say chevellefan hit it more or less. It could be stretched to question how people believe in whatever they may believe in on any given topic in life but can never justify it. |

Both verses are contradictions of the other. When both are expressed together you find balance. |

| Fear Factory – Christploitation Lyrics

Vocalist Burton C. Bell explained this attack on the Christian faith: "Christianity has become a parody of itself. Through the ages, exploitation of myths, words, and the use of the fear tactic, have ruled the masses. We have seen so much death and destruction in the name of a man made god that it means nothing. What is faith, but the belief in an archaic superstition; an overwhelming fear to face reality of the world today. Invoking the name of Christ has become a common practice. The original concept does not apply. This is control through conformity and a false sense of morality." |

Most of it sounds like a honest confession on the difficulties of life and what he has experienced. Asking himself if he has gone over his head with everything and debating giving up or maybe just slowing down. At the end tho I feel he accepts that he can't give in 100 percent but just to keep going and learn from the past. |

The only religion this would make me think of in current day would be Islam. I'd assume tho they are referring to a lot of the older "religions" that would sacrifice to the natural gods of the sun etc. |

Unearth is not in any way shape or form a Christian band. Often they are mistaken for Underoath who ARE a Christian band. |

Frontman Burton C. Bell explained this song in publicity materials: "One molecule of oxygen can alter the course of the world. It can start the deterioration slowly through rust, or it can quickly incinerate everything in its path. Either way, change is going to happen. This is about the trial by fire." |

| Fear Factory – Powershifter Lyrics
|
|
Vocalist Burton C. Bell explained Powershifter’s lyrical content: “Change is an inevitable course in nature and humanity. This world has seen much change as of late, and it is true globally, nationally, and personally. This is a true story of a personal struggle against a controlling and ineffectual organization. There is always a choice, and the choice is never easy.” |

I would say Jyekkil hit it on the head but a quick summary for me would just be that this song as do a lot of others represent in a musical sense a slow build up to the breaking point and then getting it all out of your system and then coming back down to earth once you get to vent and let the weight roll off your shoulders. |

| Veil of Maya – Entry Level Exit Wounds Lyrics
| 16 years ago

Pretty much certain this song is about drug addiction and either in the context of the song writers girlfriend or mother and how the addiction has ruined the lives of her kids(the writer being one of the kids).
The entire album expresses issues that can cause the "common man's collapse" and drug addiction certainty fits into it. The idea behind the title of the song meaning(to me at least) maybe means these wounds from his mothers actions are only the beginning of the death of him. |

Could you take that meaning to the next level and say it's basically implying that if you don't like me or how I am than pixillate me? Since the idea behind doing that is a form of censorship to avoid revealing a personal secret maybe? |

| Fear Factory – Final Exit Lyrics

To add to this song it should be known that the quote
"Final Exit...
The practicalities
of self-deliverance"
Is directly from this book http://www.finalexit.org/ergo-store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=201
I could be way off but this song is certainly from my view point about suicide. Not sure if it's about assisted suicide tho.
The indications showing that it could be assisted suicide would be the quote in the middle of the song
"It's quite an experience
to hold the hand of someone
as they move
from living to dead."
As that being the voice of the person doing the action. It's a very powerful song and I could see it having a very heavy meaning for many outside of the concept. |

| Strapping Young Lad – Zen Lyrics
|
The meaning is very straight forward in my honest opinion. It's him finding peace with the things expressed through out the album and having learned to find a state of zen in the way things are and just excepting it. Remembering not to lose your cool and go insane or into an alien place which could drive a person crazy.
Just my personal thoughts on the song. |
