A real VW fan here. Yes he did work in a school: http://www.vanityfair.com/online/daily/2008/01/michael-hogan-v.html You are totally correct in your meaning. also read an interview where they said they liked dancing about to lil john at parties and I completely agree with you as to why they cited him in this song, as an example of someone conveying their message though they might not know the finer points of punctation. The thing about coal is because the most common example of explaining the Oxford comma involves a sentence about amounts of coal and steel, and the missing comma would have you not owning up to the quantity of coal you have! It's all about language and social barriers. Not a boy and a girl. Saw them on Monday in Manchester, UK. They did all of the first album and Contra. Was immense. |

I read it in an interview with them, they used to like dancing to that song at parties, apparently there are some actions - through the window and through the wall. My guess in the context of the song is that a rapper like lil john may not know the finer points of grammar and punctuation yet still conveys his message and honestly. Oxford comma or no Oxford comma! |

If you read any interviews of VW,they have stated that they used to enjoy dancing to lil johns song at parties and apparrently there are some actions. In his own words Ezra explains the lyrics http://www.vanityfair.com/online/daily/2008/01/michael-hogan-v.html HoppyChris was correct. The most commonly used example to explain the Oxford comma cites quantities of coal and steel. If you misplace the comma, you don't own up to how much coal you have in the sample sentence. As a man, (particularly earlier English periods) it was very important to know your butler very well as he is in very close proximity with you and ALL your affairs. A disloyal butler could ruin someone for life or inflict serious damage. I do not see why anyone thinks this song is about a girl-boy relationship. The remarks could be addressed to anyone and it would appear to me to be more of a commentary about social barriers that are created through use of language and grammar in differing circles (especially in the light of Ezra's comments in Vanity Fair). |

| This is the correct meaning. This is the most commonly used example (steel and coal) to explain how the Oxford comma works. | |
