I think the meaning of this song is pretty straight forward.... IMHO It's something of an unrequited love song. He (the singer of the song) has been in love with a girl, who is now getting married... They have had a relationship historically and it has broken up, leaving the on good enough terms for him to attend her Wedding to another guy. He is still in love with the girl (bride) and wishes he could be getting married/back with her but he accepts that she doesn't love him back and she is happy with her new guy. He accepts this and on one hand is happy to see her happy, but secretly longs for her. He really wants to stop the ceremony but doesnt as he knows it wont make her love him. Been there, done that, been to the wedding, chocked back the tears and went home. :-( |

So is "Kecks" particularly around the late 90s and even so around here... That said pants around here is what should be called trousers... Undergarments are Kecks, bags, undies, boxers - nobody in North Manchester would call their underwear pants, much to the amusement of my not so local friends. |

I think this song is about being in love with an abusive partner and accepting it because you love the person/abuser. The excuse that is used is that the abuser has had a hard life, perhaps came from an abusive home or was abused as a child, so it is not their fault, to make it better for them they can pass the abuse on to another. Much of the rest of the song is about justifying it |

I agree in relation to the 'Well it's a most peculiar feeling/Like sunburn in the evening', Even in it's most basic taken as read it is very true, sunburn in the evening is a peculiar feeling, not an analogy that immediately springs to mind |

I think that the reference to "So don't mention the War " Isn't particularly from Fawlty Towers, though it was used in that it is pretty common (though less so in recent years) in common parlance it's a sort of 'be careful you don't offend' - usually towards someone you don't know that well. I suppose it works quite well as the girl in the song is waking up to a stranger and can't probably remember anything of who s/he is and and anything about them. There is also a curious "outro" to this song. |
