| Bob Dylan – Positively 4th Street Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
He wrote it about the people he knew on 4th street(greenwich village), all the folk musicians that he used to hang round with, who then resented him after 'betraying'(evolving) them and moving onto his electric guitar period(Maggie's farm, highway 69 revisted etc). It's not Dylan's fault for being successful, and they feel hate because they're dissatisfied with themselves and because he's moved on. Though really it doesn't have to apply to just the people he felt so bitter about. It's the ultimate bitter song about selfish 'friends' and resenting them for leeching, talking behind your back and failing to understand or be happy for you. It's Perfectly bitter song, which can sadly apply to so many people you meet. |

| Bad Religion – American Jesus Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
This is how the image(the american image of jesus) is used to justify things he would never have done. Gandhi said: "I like your Christ; I don't like your Christians; Your Christians are very unlike your Christ" The American dream, and a capatalist is against what Jesus taught, he taught equality, freedom, forgiveness(not invading countries), he taught against materlialism(I'm athiest by the way-I dont mean to preach!) It's all about how religion is formed by people's opinions: "He's the fuel that drives the Klan,(Cave in)" Jesus didn't teach racism and hate, it's just how religion has been manipulated by people with power, to the point where Americans think they are the chosen land of free. The first verse is completely sarcastic, he talks about being blessed, when really he feels disgust for his nation for their actions(it was written when the gulf war was announced) The second verse is how Americans put themselves above other nations, and are self obsessed-thinking their country is Jesus' country, when they don't even have basics like healthcare (even cuba has health care). Really western/nothern europe is a much saner place, religion is no longer important in scandanavia. So basically it's about using twisting the image of Jesus and religion to support your actions, especially how George Bush did so for the gulf war. |

| The Black Eyed Peas – Meet Me Half Way Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Obviously it's about sacrificing in a relationship, asking the other to be lenient if you yourself are. However by no means is this good lyrically: "girl,i travel round the world and even sail the seven seas across the universe i go to other galaxies" There's a huge f***ing difference between sailing the seas and going between galaxies and then walking uptown then downtown-the person really can't decide how much they care, even if it's a metaphor it's a useless one. There's a huge difference between going into the effort into intergalactic travel (and intergalactic travel will probably never happen)-it's the difference between walking around town for a few hours to see someone, and travelling for 2.5 million years(at the speed of light)...to get to the nearest galaxy apart from our own..great songwriting. so basically Will-i-am needs to sort his metaphors out... |
