Sigur Rós – Andvari Lyrics 11 years ago
even though this song was used in *remember me*, i've come to associate this song with *her*. while i definitely liked what arcade fire (and others) have done with the score, i think this song best sums up the whole film and the emotions it evokes. it's basically a sweet melancholic song about love, love lost and love lingering.

Grizzly Bear – Shift Lyrics 11 years ago
this song was used in *blue valentine* and at the end when it intercuts between the final break in cindy and dean's marriage and their courthouse wedding. and quite appropriately i might add.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Shame Lyrics 13 years ago
interestingly enough, i just watched *shame* (2011; dir. by steve mcqueen, stars michael fassbender and carey mulligan). from what i saw in the trailer, i began associating it with this song. now i can see that there are some interesting albeit very coincidental connections. obviously the lyrics have some intersects with the characters and the story. but the music itself has a coolness and a coldness that matches the cinematography and the performances. even the endings have a bittersweet tint that's also ambiguous.

The Cure – The Same Deep Water as You Lyrics 16 years ago
to add something to the discussion, i've learned to associate this song with the 1958 russian film directed by mikhail kalatozov called the cranes are flying [letyat zhuravli]. the film starts with a young love between boris and veronika. eventually, boris is sent off to the front and is eventually killed. the moment when he's killed, he is thinking about veronika and even imagines a wedding. the location of his death involves a forest and a makeshift lake formed by the rain. those images and that moment made me think of "the same deep water as you" instantly.
