My thoughts on Reagan (not as an attack on pinkeyswear but on Reagan and the Bitburg incident): Reagan was brilliant he communicated too the vets and Jews and other Holocaust survivors and WW2 era folks as well as the politicians (not that I care what the politicians think) that he didn't care about them. Then he communicated quite well that the nazi soldiers buried at Bitburg (which had a large amount of Waffen-SS troops) were victims just as the people in the concentration camps. He also after visting Bitburg quite eloqently communicated that the soldiers at Bitburg were just simple soldiers (nothing says simple solider like Waffen-SS) Though it is quite possible that Reagan's brilliant communications were written by Patrick Buchanan which would also make sense as Mr. Buchanan is a well noted racist and holocaust denier supporter as well as an extremist conservative (much like Reagan but probably just a slight bit more racist) Reagan should have stayed at the University of Iowa broadcasting home football games for the Hawkeyes. His whole failure presidency would have never happened and quite possibly the world would have been a whole lot better off. Though quite possibly Ted Leo wouldn't have written this song but I could do a trade this song for Reagan not being president ever. Just so long as he has all of his other great songs |

How does it suck ass? Is it because Ronnie decided it was a good idea against major public opposition from both houses of congress(including 11 republicans) as well as vets and Jews, too go too a majority Nazi cemetery which had 49 members of the Waffen SS and then call the Nazis just victims just like the ones in the concentration camps and those interred at Bitburg were "simply soldiers in the German army.... There were thousands of such soldiers for whom Nazism meant no more than a brutal end to a short life." This isn't even mentioning the various other shit Reagan did wrong throughout his presidency. I used too be a republican too a long time ago then I wised up and realized stuff like this was happening and that both parties sucked and I needed too think for myself Reagan was a horrible president as was GHWB and Clinton and GWB. They don't listen too the people at all they do whatever they want and don't ever pay the consequences because nobody is willing to actually hold them accountable. The only reason people like Reagan just as people like any president is they are drawn too the party line and won't look past it to look at what these people really are about. This song is brilliant and I am glad it was written it was a perfect song for that moment. |
