This is my take on the lyrics, someone else had tried to interpret them at http://www.getacd.org/listen_AAErpY2DirY/tumbleweed_hang_around Saw these guys at the latest Big Day Out, they still sound awesome! Absolutely loved the original clip with the Godzilla sized chicken and “Bent Street” (you can see it on youtube) Brings back memories of Sydney in the 90’s |

"You're a long time dead So I'll forget that you said" In these 2 lines the singer is trying to get over the girl "If I can't have you Nobody can have you Nobody can have you" But as the singer who was being strung along at the time is now in love with this girl, since she can't be with him, nobody else will as his heart is now infatuated only with her even after all this time. |

In Jungian psychological terms (check this explanation) http://www.shadowdance.com/articles/isitloveorprojection.html also see point 4 on this page also about animus/anima http://eroticawithsoul.blogspot.com/2009/01/how-to-get-over-crush.html This song would be about how the singer is projecting the positive qualities of his internal female anima onto another "You fill my head with dreams You're the greatest thing I ever saw And I'm the greatest thing ever born" |

The song appears to be about an unapproachable person, that the singer can’t approach and/or is afraid of In Jungian psychological terms it appears to be about the Anima possession of a man (check this explanation) http://www.shadowdance.com/articles/isitloveorprojection.html See point 4 on this page also about animus/anima http://eroticawithsoul.blogspot.com/2009/01/how-to-get-over-crush.html Also a psychological term called limerance http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limerence Projected onto another person (crush) or fantasy female image (anima) in the singer’s head that he’s fighting against “One day I think you'll sing my praises But at the moment you're far too lazy to Get down on your knees I'm begging please say that again” “Shame on you There's something in my head And it's got its back to me” Temporary body paralysis due to nerves/fear (also fighting the internal anima in his head) ”Shame on you There's something in my legs And they never walk to me” Again can’t speak due to nerves/fear (also fighting the anima in his head) “Shame on you There's something in my mouth And it never talks to me” Is jealous as the girl (the crush) is with another and sees her as cold and unapproachable (perhaps due to his fear) “Would you give blood if you had any? Would you say I'm good or are there far too many fish in the sea? Won't you please say that again?” |

| I suppose you could say that this song is about someone from long ago who was already in a relationship but seeing the "grass as being greener" in another person, and stringing the other person along. | |

Like alot of the songs on Change Giver, this one is about infatuation. "You're the greatest thing I ever saw And I'm the greatest thing ever born" it shows how the love object can totally light up your life and make you feel so alive at the same time. It's a really great song, I remeber listening to this song and the whole album all throughout my teens. I loved it |
